A tool for anchoring in time and space
Ember Chime is an Android app that gently reminds you at set intervals to take a breath. It also shows time in cycles: moon phases, sunrise and sunset, planetary hours, and traditional calendars.
The app is religiously and culturally neutral: it promotes no tradition, and a spiritual profile is optional. Whether you want plain secular mindfulness or want to align your day with a traditional calendar, you set it up your own way.
Circle one: The sound of presence (Mindfulness Chime)
The core of the app. At the intervals you set (for example every 30 minutes), Ember Chime alerts you with a gentle sound or vibration to take a breath and notice the present moment.
It tracks the exact sunrise and sunset for your location and even lets you choose whether you perceive dusk as civil, nautical, or astronomical. Of course, you can set quiet hours for the night so your sleep is undisturbed.
Circle two: Cosmic and planetary hours
Step away from mechanical watches and look at the day through the lens of ancient astrology. The app divides the day into planetary hours.
You will see when, by tradition, Venus rules (art, beauty, and relationships), when Saturn (deep work), and when Mercury (communication). It is a traditional system, not a scientific claim.
Circle three: Solar and lunar cycles
In the lunar and solar calendar section you can follow the current moon phase, its percentage of illumination, and the dates of upcoming full and new moons.
The solar panel keeps you in touch with the changing seasons, shows the exact length of daylight, and tells you about approaching solstices and equinoxes.
Circle four: Your free spiritual profile
In settings you can choose a spiritual profile: Christian, Protestant, Orthodox, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Celtic, or universal (Regula Gallinarum). A purely secular mode is also possible.
This choice dynamically changes the structure of the traditional calendar. You can be notified of, for example, the universal Summer Solstice, the Slavic St. John's Eve, or the Celtic Lughnasadh. The app judges nothing, it just shows the times and feasts of the chosen tradition.
Circle five: What the full version added
The full version brought complete profiles of further traditions: Islamic (five daily prayers by your chosen method, Sunni and Shia branches, the Hijri calendar, and Ramadan detection), Orthodox (eight canonical hours, the Dodekaorton, and Pascha calculated by the Julian Computus), Buddhist (a monastic daily rhythm, lunar observance days, and a daily verse from the Dhammapada), and Celtic (eight tides of the day, the Wheel of the Year, and the reconstructed Coligny calendar).
